Punchlines: Awkward political moments
In the political theater that encompasses presidential campaigns and State of the Union addresses, there are always more than enough cringe-worthy moments. Some are funny: One-time Democratic candidate Howard Dean's ear-popping scream made for good political mashups. Others are regrettable: Rep. Joe Wilson yelling "you lie" during President Obama's 2009 address comes to mind.
But this past week, potential GOP candidate Jeb Bush, Vice President Joe Biden (who is toying with a run himself), and Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg all had moments that top the list for political awkwardness.
Ginsburg explained her drowsy State of the Union behavior by admitting that she wasn't entirely sober during the president's speech. One comic equated her explanation with something you might find on Tinder. Biden gave a bizarre shout out to an old friend during a speech in Iowa. And a Bush staffer was ousted for making disparaging remarks about women (referring to some as sluts), gay men and African Americans. Another comic shows how that changed Bush's strategy.
