Petraeus trades honor for shame: #tellusatoday

The Justice Department reached a plea deal with ex-CIA director David Petraeus over sharing classified information with his mistress. Comments from Twitter and Facebook are edited for clarity and grammar:

If David Petraeus weren't a lauded and popular general, he would not have gotten a deal.

The good in his career outweighs this stupid act. He deserved a deal.

Let's see if the government offers Edward Snowden, who leaked National Security Agency information, the same consideration.

@PatriotWay1

I had respect for Gen. David Petraeus, but after he betrayed his wife and gave classified information to his mistress, I wonder about his intelligence. That is a disappointment for both his family and the country.

Petraeus and Edward Snowden are heroes to me. Try to rise above petty politics and think about what Petraeus did.

What he did was stupid, and he is paying dearly for this lapse. Of course he needs to be slapped around for his behavior, but he didn't start World War III. Let it go! I'm sure he has already suffered enough.

If any of us without Petraeus' resources and connections were charged with the same thing, we would be looking at years behind bars.
