Apple swiftly retreats on music promotion: Your Say

Apple reversed course after Taylor Swift objected to its plan to withhold musician royalties during a three-month trial of a new music streaming service. Comments from Facebook are edited for clarity and grammar:

This is what separates the good companies from the bad. Apple made a mistake, owned up to it, rectified the problem and moved on. This is why Apple is the best company in the world. Taylor Swift would not have missed a quarter's payments, but a lot of artists would have. Some companies just want it all. Apple isn't one of them.

Apple should not expect others to support its marketing efforts. It was giving away music that didn't belong to it. If Verizon wanted to give away three months of wireless services and told Apple it wanted free phones for that time, Apple would be upset.

What's the big surprise about Apple not wanting to pay out royalties?

This is how these big companies earn huge profits: underpaying workers, slashing jobs, overcharging for products and services, creating monopolies and colluding with other big companies to rig the market.

We consumers have to take some responsibility for these ruthless, greedy big companies. We have to hit them where it hurts — in their pockets. Stop buying overpriced products and services.

Stop taking crooked sales pitches at face value. Whatever junk they're pushing, it's not the best deal for us. There is no big business without consumers. We hold all the cards.
