Which GOP hopeful has what it takes? #tellusatoday

After New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie entered the presidential race, we asked followers what they thought of the GOP field. Comments from Twitter are edited for clarity and grammar:

Chris Christie will take front-runner status. He governed one of the most populous states and stood up to a Democratic-run New Jersey Legislature.

The GOP field is like high school and filled with nerds, bullies and haters. Let the show begin.

@ilymalabella

Some GOP candidates are better than others. All are a major improvement to the current president.

@RbTilton

Christie has chosen what is best for his constituents above politics. Therefore, he would be a good leader.

Comments from Facebook are edited for clarity and grammar:

Chris Christie is up to his eyeballs in the George Washington Bridge scandal, and he is letting subordinates take the fall. He is a lousy governor and would be a worse president.

Steve Redmond

I might consider voting for Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal as well as Sen. Rand Paul, but the GOP won't nominate either of them. It more likely will go with the "same old, same old" again in former governor Jeb Bush.

Bruce Mort

I am dumbfounded why Jindal is running for president when he is so unpopular in his own state. If you cannot run your state, what makes you think you can run the country?

Mike Callery

Donald Trump also has announced he's running for president. I, for one, am glad to see someone who is not a boring politician. Americans could use a bit of a jolt about now.

John Steiner

Trump is entertaining. I'll give him that. He wears his bigotry and stupidity right on his sleeve for everyone to see.

Letter to the editor:

Can't your reporters find anything else to belittle Donald Trump for? Picking on his hairdo is so lame ("Holy hairdo! Trump now second in N.H.," News, June 24). Who cares how he wears his hair? Try going bald. You'd try anything, too. I like him. He'd be good for America.
