Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage: Second look

Letters to the editor:

Marriage ruling

I wish that all of the religious, moralist types, such as Tony Perkins, who is president of the Family Research Council, would pull their heads out of the sand and realize that same-sex marriage is not about religious traditions and morality perceptions ("Court lacks moral authority to redefine marriage: Opposing view").

It has to do with people's rights under our secular Constitution. Furthermore, where is their bile-driven outrage over divorce and broken families resulting from heterosexual marriages?

Private matters

Grandpa Clark, my grandfather, lived to be 92 years old. He fought across Europe as a doughboy in World War I in the U.S. Marine Corps.

He came home, went to seminary, raised a family, and helped many people turn their lives in a more positive direction. He was wise, fun and probably one of the first hippies.

However, he said there were some things you just didn't need to talk about, and homosexuality was one of them. Perhaps this is where I came up with my philosophy on gay marriage or anything related to the subject: Sex is private; shut up about it.
