Iran deal, Confederate flag, mass killings: Second look

Letters to the editor:

Reject Iran deal

If politicians in Washington have a lick of common sense and truly have the American people’s best interests at heart, they will wholeheartedly reject this so-called peace deal. Politicians need to prove they are friends of Americans, and America’s friend Israel.

Nuclear deal with Iran is better than no deal, but details are important, especially when it comes to verification that weapons will not be developed. More from Paste BN's Editorial Board.

Confederate flag

Commnetary writer Jonah Goldberg asks for forbearance in acknowledging respect for those who honor the Confederate battle flag, a symbol of slavery and disrespect for our nation’s values (“Goldberg: Zero tolerance for Confederate flag, nuance for Islamic terror”). Would he do the same for Germans wishing to honor German World War II dead by flying a swastika? I think not.

The Confederate flag should be removed from government property; but don't trample on First Amendment rights. More from the Paste BN Editorial Board.

Deny mass killers

I believe commentary writer James Alan Fox is wrong that nothing can be done to end mass killings (“Better background check wouldn't have stopped Charleston: Column”).

What is the motivation behind these senseless acts? Often, a mentally unstable outcast sees no positive way to be recognized. So he chooses an evil method. And he gets his wish. His photo is on the front page of newspapers, and his life story becomes known to all.

Stop making heroes of them! Perhaps then the next loser won’t find it appealing.
