A familiar song you probably thought was in the public domain is now truly free. A federal judge in California ruled on Tuesday that the copyright for "Happy Birthday to You" is invalid. Now waiters will have an easier time embarrassing customers on their birthdays. Instead of making up a tune, they can just go with the tried and true. Stephen Colbert, who worked as a waiter when he started out acting, praised the "great injustice" that has been righted with this decision.
