Punchlines: Why do we still celebrate Columbus Day?

Late-night comic Jimmy Kimmel cleverly summed up the reason many states yesterday chose to celebrate Indigenous Peoples Day instead of Columbus Day when he said, "Columbus discovered America the same way your mom discovered Instagram."
And other incidents across the country -- someone axed a statue in the head of Christopher Columbus in Detroit and slathered it in fake blood -- have many wondering why we still celebrate the holiday. Is it the mattress sales? Fear of the PC police? Habit? Would a good compromise be to have two national holidays, one celebrating Columbus and the other celebrating Native Americans?
How did Seth Meyers celebrate? He went to his local grocery store and got lost looking for spices.
