Charlie Sheen’s HIV disclosure can help others: Your Say

Actor Charlie Sheen revealed Tuesday that he is HIV positive. He was diagnosed about four years ago. Comments from Facebook are edited for clarity and grammar:

No one is surprised by this news given the lifestyle that Charlie Sheen has been living. Sheen can live with this virus for many years. A lot of progress has been made with the new medications that are available today. I feel badly for his children and his other family members who will have to watch him go through this disease.

He stated in an interview that he has “a responsibility now to better myself.” Now he has a responsibility to better himself? He should have bettered himself when he got married or had children, not when he was diagnosed with HIV.

It’s bad enough he contracted HIV, but it’s made even worse because people extorted money from him. As they say, the love of money is the root of all evil.

Sheen didn’t have to pay people to keep quiet. He could have done what he is doing now and just come forward. Sheen should have been more worried earlier in his life about his children and the inheritance he would be able to leave them and adjusted his behavior to be a better father to them.

Some people wonder whether Sheen’s announcement deserved attention. This is newsworthy because some people do follow and relate to actors like Sheen. It is a human story that can warn others about the consequences of their actions.
