For Amazon drones, bad outweighs good: #tellusatoday

We asked what followers thought of Amazon testing drone delivery of packages weighing up to 5 pounds. Comments from Twitter are edited for clarity and grammar:

It might work, although it could get hairy with ensuring proper identification and possible package theft.

It is a sound business decision, and if you are a customer within the delivery area, it would be good for you.

Amazon drones will mean more people lose their jobs.

It’s a bad idea. Couldn’t you just shoot it down and take someone’s package?

POLICING THE USA: A look at race, justice, media

Comments from Facebook are edited for clarity and grammar:

OK, so drone delivery could happen. I think retailers are wasting money on development. Who delivers the packages now? Not them, right? Eventually, the big freight companies will handle these drone deliveries. Have them do the development.

I don’t think 30-minute delivery will be in that much demand. Same-day delivery, for lower cost, for sure would be. Also, how do you stop someone scheduling a delivery and stealing the drone?

— Brent White

Will everyone be flying drones now? What little quietness there was will be gone then.

— Camile Costellano

There will be limited potential for delivery drones. It’s hard to imagine hundreds of them delivering packages. Also, remember the Federal Aviation Administration has issued guidelines on operator control and line of sight.
