After six months, Mexican authorities recaptured Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzmán on Friday. The notorious drug lord is being held in the same maximum-security prison in Mexico he broke out of via an escape tunnel in July. Well, they’ve revoked his tunnel privileges this time, Jimmy Kimmel joked.
And it seems that El Chapo’s ego and desire for a biographical film to be made about his life did him in. Authorities say a secret meeting with actor Sean Penn helped them locate the wanted fugitive. Rolling Stone published a 10,000-word article by Penn the day after El Chapo was caught. It all sounds like a perfect plot for a movie.
