Voter anger, elections, Super Bowl: Second look

Letters to the editor:

Bureaucracy to blame

Thank you, Glenn Reynolds, for Rep. Mia Love’s answer to why voters are so mad. She says it’s due, in part, to both parties having the habit of passing complex bills detailed in thousands of pages (“Want to know why voters are so mad? Mia Love has the answer: Glenn Reynolds”).

There is another factor. We elect members of Congress who campaign on integrity yet serve opaquely. The current slate of candidates is a perfect example of this. We are promised betterment and given continuance. There is a reason we are the laughingstock of the world; we place a priority on reality-TV ratings. We are better than this but have not seen the proof.

Fix election process

What if we held six sequential regional primaries, say about one month apart starting in March in an election year, to narrow down the field of candidates. In November, we hold the general election, and the top popular vote-getter becomes president while the second-highest becomes vice president.

Skip the super bowl

In Tuesday’s edition, a column asked: “Is it immoral to watch the Super Bowl?” I don’t think it is immoral, but it is a waste of a Sunday afternoon and evening.
