As GOP nominee, must Trump go mainstream? #tellusatoday

Letters edited for clarity and grammar:

As the results rolled in during Tuesday night’s GOP primary in Indiana, Sen. Ted Cruz gave a most gracious speech suspending his campaign.

And with results coming in, those political pundits who said Trump had a ceiling realized that they had to eat crow. Trump ended up with more than 1,000 delegates after the Indiana primary.

This race is proving once more that projections are so often wrong, and they promote things that aren’t true. As for Trump not being able to beat Hillary Clinton, which has been the projection for months, there are some polls that have Trump ahead. So it will be a most interesting few months heading into the conventions, where the real issue is who will be the Democratic nominee. Sanders beat Clinton in Indiana. Bill Clinton was booed when he campaigned for his wife in towns that are part of coal country. And she still has an investigation hanging over her head. We do live in interesting times.

Now that Donald Trump is the presumptive Republican nominee, I sincerely hope he can change his divisive rhetoric to language that more appropriately matches the office he is seeking. Yes, his candidacy is unique, and that has drawn millions to vote for him. But unique isn’t always better, and based on his rhetoric during this primary season, his campaign has been alarming. In order to win the White House, it must be a race to the top, not a race to the bottom. Trump has a choice about what kind of campaign he wants to run.

We asked followers what they thought of the outcome of the GOP primary in Indiana. Tweets edited for clarity:

What do people think will happen when Donald Trump starts calling heads of state liars? I know people are frustrated but can’t believe they are so naive they think Trump is the answer.

@Geeme1097

I love it. Now we can move forward with Trump.

@KalaDeBoy

Clinton now has a road to the White House paved in Trump gold.

@SeanTheIrishWay

I will write in @tedcruz. I can’t swallow the bile the @GOP dishes yet again!

@angelathomas22

Cruz lasted longer because of Trump. Against a more traditional candidate he’d have been gone long ago.

@ann_boger

Not that I’d support Clinton in a million years either! Our country is in big trouble. More than the last eight years!
