Asking for emergency funds is hypocritical: Your Say

Gov. Scott shouldn’t be the one deciding how government should be run.

Letter to the editor:

Florida Gov. Rick Scott wants the federal government overhauled, claiming President Obama has done nothing on Zika. Obama requested aid from Congress to fight Zika, and that is all he can do. If Congress won’t fund it, the president cannot do anything else.

Scott talks about running government like a business, but let’s go back and look at what he did while “running” a business in the 1990s. He was either clueless, or perhaps dishonest, as the head of his company facing fines and penalties. I don’t think he should be the one deciding how any form of government should be run.

Yes, congressional leaders are incompetent, as Gov. Rick Scott says in “The incompetence of Washington.” The entire House of Representatives can be replaced in November. All it takes is for us to vote against the incumbents, regardless of “party affiliation.” Unfortunately, too many people in this country still vote straight tickets.

That is the reason Congress is so screwed up; we caused it.

This maddening frustration Scott talks about must be what the 1 million Florida residents feel, those whom Scott denied Medicaid benefits for political reasons.

Scott claimed it was because federal benefit money could not be counted on to continue indefinitely. And yet, here you are rattling your beggar’s cup and giving attention-seeking press conferences to solicit Zika funds we all know will not continue indefinitely.
