Terrorist attacks are becoming the norm: #tellusatoday
Readers react to the recent attack in Istanbul.
An assailant opened fire at a nightclub in Istanbul during New Year’s celebrations on Saturday, killing at least 39 people and wounding 40 others. The Islamic State terror group claimed responsibility on Monday for the attack. Facebook comments are edited for clarity and grammar:
My condolences for the families of the victims. We truly are descending into the hell of a futuristic sci-fi movie, as the reality of Islamist terrorism becomes the norm.
— Margot Smith
I’m starting to see a pattern here. When there is a terrorist attack, liberals warn not to assume it’s radical Islam and that Trump supporters are showing their “bigotry” and “Islamophobia.”
Usually within 24 hours or later, either the suspect who ends up being apprehended is Muslim or ISIL takes credit. Or both.
The same liberals who initially accused Trump supporters of not having the facts seem to get amnesia or disappear entirely.

We will never defeat ISIL. You’re trying to defeat an idea. Seventy years later, we still have neo-Nazis, OK?
We can kill ISIL’s leaders and soldiers, we can harm their infrastructure, we can eliminate their access to funds, but we won’t win with a repeat of Iraq, where our military intervention turned many of them toward ISIL.
— Greg Gibson
Extremist violence has taken so many innocent lives for absolutely no benefit to those who ascribe to this inhumanly cruel form of political or religious action. Eventually, they are brought to account one way or another.
It’s said that those who live by the sword die by the sword. But it seems that this metaphorical sword is growing larger each and every day.
— Peter Fonseca
I pray for the families and friends of the victims. We have to rid our world of these hateful groups that don’t accept others because they don’t agree with one extreme view or another. Let them see the love in others’ hearts. This is just so sad.
Lord, please intervene and share your light and love.

We asked our followers whether the U.S. should do more to combat terrorism abroad, after the recent attack in Istanbul. Tweets are edited for clarity and grammar:
We need to work with global intelligence agencies to share information and mitigate an attack on U.S. soil.
— @RXGumucio
As much as we do not like war, we really need to go out and kick the Islamic State terror group out.
— @KaylaCe4
Train locals to fight ISIL and keep cautionary travel advisories. That might be best for the long term.
— @macdoodled
The U.S. cannot be the global police, but ISIL must be utterly destroyed, with a plan for post-power vacuum.
— @d__el
The U.S. should coordinate with other countries, but only if they wish to do so. We should run the U.S., not the world.
