As if President Donald Trump doesn't have enough real scandals to worry about, now he's manufacturing them?

Until Monday's tweet, the world had essentially moved on from Trump's Tim Apple gaffe — the kind of slip of the tongue that everyone has made on occasion. His daughter even laughed about it on social media. As did Apple CEO Tim Cook, who added an Apple emoji after his name on his Twitter handle.

Guess who couldn't let the misstatement go? Yes, Mr. Malaprop himself.

Trump tweeted that the only reason he called the tech giant Tim Apple during a White House meeting was because he was trying to save time and words. No mistake made.

Not so fast. The late-night comics have probed further into this Applegate. Stephen Colbert says dropping words just doesn't happen and gives a personal example. And Trevor Noah relates the scandal to Jussie Smollett's. See how in today's Best of Late Night, above.
