A golden retriever had to be carried out like a baby by a doorman after he sneaked into an apartment building in New York.

Sailor, a 7-month-old golden retriever, was captured on video by his owner, Abigail Crouch, being carried out of an apartment building in New York City by his "best friend" after the pup sneaked inside to get some treats.

However, instead of being reprimanded, the naughty dog was showered with love and cuddles as he came out.

'One-of-a-kind' friendship

Describing the building's doormen as "truly special," Crouch told Paste BN over email Sailor shares a "one-of-a-kind" bond with them.

Crouch said she first noticed Sailor's love for the doormen of a building in her neighborhood when he was about 4 months old.

"We were walking past their building when one of them offered him a treat — he was thrilled," Crouch said. "After that, he wanted to go back every day."

While initially Sailor wanted to go to the building for the treats, over time it became no longer "just about the treats," according to Crouch.

"He started recognizing the doormen, especially three of them who gave him so much love and attention that he was more excited to see them than to get a snack," she said. "Eventually, he’d pull me toward the building from blocks away."

Crouch said as soon as the two are a few blocks away, Sailor starts "sprinting toward the building, pulling like crazy," and when they arrive, his "tail wags so hard his whole booty wiggles."

"He greets each doorman with so much love, bouncing between them and flopping onto his back for belly rubs," Crouch added. "It’s like his own little fan club."

The feeling is mutual, Crouch said, noting the doormen love Sailor too and that they are now on first-name basis. Crouch even knows some of their schedules so she and Sailor can visit "when our favorites are working."

"One of them said Sailor brightens his whole day, and he’s even convinced his mom to get a golden retriever after falling in love with Sailor," Crouch said. "He regularly sends photos and videos of Sailor to his family group chat. They've even surprised Sailor with toys — they’re truly amazing."

Seeing doormen is a 'beautiful little routine'

While the two don't live in the building, Crouch said "it's started to feel like home" now, adding seeing how much joy Sailor brings to the doormen "is so heartwarming" and makes her day.

"It's a reminder of how simple and powerful kindness can be," Crouch said. "We’ve spent as long as 20 minutes just hanging out and chatting while Sailor laps up the attention. It’s a beautiful little routine."
