Trailer: Michel Gondry's 'The We and the I'
Director Michel Gondry has helmed so many innovative projects — from Eternal Sunshine to The Science of Sleep to Be Kind Rewind — that we've come to expect the unexpected from him. Still, news of his latest project comes as a surprise, and it expands his repertoire a bit further.
There are no big names in The We and the I; rather, the cast is made up of first-time teen actors Gondry met through an after-school arts project in the Bronx. The story takes place on the last day of school, and virtually all of it takes place on a bus.
Here's the trailer, which contains a little spicy language/content:
Despite the static setting, Gondry adds many personal touches to the flick, including smartphone videos, text messages and special visual effects. (I also couldn't help but notice the split-second shot of a Daniel Clowes book. Gondry himself is a big comics fan/creator.)
The We and the I opens March 8.
