Cool stuff on DVD today: Marvel and more
It's a slow week for DVDs; for my money, I think your best option is the Shining documentary Room 237, now on demand/iTunes.
But here's the short list o' discs:
Release o' the week: Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One - Avengers Assembled. This fancy 10-disc set includes The Avengers, Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Captain America and a "top-secret bonus disc."
- Kristen Schaal: Live at the Fillmore. The comedian/Bob's Burgers star gets a little dirty (and I like it!).
- Hemingway & Gellhorn. Nicole Kidman and Clive Owen star in this flick, which is interesting enough but runs a bit too long.
- John Dies at the End. The indie-horror comedy is uneven but still worth a rental.
- Phillip Roth: Unmasked. PBS explores the life and career of the writer.
Also out: The Killing: Season Two, The Bible: The Epic Miniseries, The Baytown Outlaws, Dirk Gently
Blu-ray highlight: That Thing You Do! is now out in the format.
New on Netflix Instant: Users can now stream Seasons 1-4 of Fringe on the site, along with Hatfields & McCoys.
Related news: Peggy Sue Got Married is coming to Blu-ray this summer.
Next week: The Bill Murray flick Hyde Park on Hudson arrives.
