Cool stuff on DVD today: 'Outsiders,' 'Superman,' more
A bunch of must-have classics are now on disc — see this week's highlights and then go spend some cash:
Release o' the week: Band of Outsiders . One of my favorite Godard films gets the Criterion treatment this week. The disc includes tons of bonus features, including an interview with Anna Karina and a short film from Agnes Varda that features the cast.
- Upstream Color. Director Shane Carruth makes a buzzworthy, if perplexing, follow-up to Primer.
- Jack Reacher. Tom Cruise stars in the thriller based on the Lee Child novels.
- Superman: Unbound. Matt Bomer and Castle's Stana Katic are among those who lend their voices to this new animated feature.
- Barrymore. The legendary Christopher Plummer plays another screen legend.
- Fringe: The Complete Series and Fringe: The Fifth and Final Season. I regret not getting into this show during its run, and I definitely plan to catch up now.
- 30 Rock: Season Seven. The final season of the show isn't the series' best, but it does give us a lot of closure.
Also out: The Rabbi's Cat, Mama, The Oranges, Private Practice: The Sixth Season, Safe Haven, Starlet, Doc Martin Special Collection: Series 1-5 and The Movies, Royal Pains: Season Four
Blu-ray highlight: A bunch of good films are available in the format today, including the Brando classic Viva Zapata!, The Great Escape and One Hour Photo.
