Pics: The 'Arrested' banana stand comes to NYC
When I heard Bluth's Original Frozen Banana Stand was going to be in Manhattan today, I figured I better hightail it over there before everyone else.
Little did I realize that Arrested Development fans are hardcore. Fifteen minutes before the stand officially opened at 11 a.m., the line stretched halfway around a New York City block — and it was growing longer by the second.
As a creative promotion for Arrested's new batch of episodes, Netflix is taking the comedy's signature banana stand on a cross-country tour. Stops are announced on Twitter, and they may include surprise appearances by cast members.
While no actors popped up at the stand across from Radio City Music Hall, I did see a dude in a banana costume and many, many frozen bananas, which are being handed out for free until 6 p.m. (I guess there isn't "always money in the banana stand" after all!)
If you go, note that the line is long but moves pretty quickly. Here are a few photos I snapped:
All 15 new episodes of Arrested Development will be posted May 26 on Netflix Instant. A trailer was released last night.
Tomorrow the banana stand pops up at New York's Columbus Circle from noon to 7 p.m.
