'Tim and Eric' star David Liebe Hart releases an album
If you were a fan of Adult Swim's Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!, then you're familiar with its signature ventriloquist/songwriter, David Liebe Hart.
Liebe Hart often popped up between sketches singing bizarre tunes about alien races, childhood memories and women. (I like to think of him as sort of a 21st century Tiny Tim.) In this fan favorite, he sings to a lovely dummy about "loving her to bits, I wanna kiss her on the lips":
Liebe Hart often toured with comedians Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim and became a cult figure among fans. This week he released his first album with the David Liebe Hart Band, a punk group put together by collaborator Adam Papagan.
The songs here don't disappoint and touch on subjects as diverse as a weird guy in Liebe Hart's apartment building and the cast of Bewitched. (Liebe Hart, a devoted Christian Scientist, even sings some hymns set to punk music.)
If I had to pick a favorite track from the self-titled record, it might be Betty White. In the lyrics, Liebe Hart notes White has "outlived Bob Hope" and is "the funniest old lady in town":
The album is out now, as is a new exercise video starring Liebe Hart. Impose magazine has a stream of the record and a great interview with Liebe Hart and Papagan.
