New DVDs/downloads: 'In a World ...' and more
I'm so glad a bunch of great movies/TV shows are out today, because it looks like I might be trapped indoors for awhile because of this snow. Take a look, then buy/download as you please:
Release o' the week: In a World ... This indie comedy from writer/director/star Lake Bell has it all: humor, charm, heart and a solid story about the bizarre world of voiceover work.
- Blue Jasmine. Woody Allen's latest is perfectly cast, with winning performances from Cate Blanchett, Sally Hawkins and, surprisingly, Andrew Dice Clay.
- Machete Kills. As I've noted before, this is probably the only film you'll ever see that features Mel Gibson and Lady Gaga.
- Captain Phillips. Oh, that Tam Honks. He can do anything!
- Comedy Bang Bang: The Compete First Season. Guests from this season of the IFC show include Zach Galifianakis, Amy Poehler, Michael Cera, Jon Hamm, Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd and many others.
- The Cosby Show: Season 1 and The Cosby Show: Season 2. Note that these releases include the uncut episodes; previous DVDs have irked fans by containing cut versions that aired in syndication.
Also out: Bad Milo! , Freezer, Marc Maron: Thinky Pain, Best Man Down, Bullet in the Face: The Complete Series, Dilbert: The Complete Series, Charlie Countryman, The Doors: R-Evolution, Sunlight Jr., Instructions Not Included, La Vie de Boheme (Criterion), Old Goats
Blu-ray highlights: The Dick Van Dyke classic Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and 1963's It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World are now available in the format.
On-demand highlight: Check out All Is Lost with Robert Redford on demand weeks before it comes out on DVD.
Related news: Nebraska arrives on DVD Feb. 25, so we'll be able to see it before the Oscars.
Next week: It's time to get frisky with Bad Grandpa!
