Can't afford that $28M Popeye? How 'bout a T-shirt?
It seems like art auctions keep getting crazier, with sales records being set each time we blink.
Last week Christie's auction house raked in a record-setting $744 million at one auction. And Sotheby's had a major sale of its own, which included casino owner Steve Wynn's purchase of a six-and-a-half-foot Popeye statue for $28 million. Holy moly.
Since none of us has millions to blow on Jeff Koons' creations, here's a fun (and more useful) alternative: This week I'm giving away Popeye T-shirts to three Pop Candy readers. If you're one of the winners, you'll be able to pick any Popeye item from TV Store Online.
To enter, answer this question:
If you could own a statue of any pop-culture icon, who would it be?
Personally, a giant Velma from Scooby-Doo would really tie the room together. Send your responses to popcandy@usatoday.com with the subject line "POPEYE" by May 21 at noon ET. Good luck!
