Giveaway: Win a 'Highlights' prize pack!
Highlights magazine has been around so long that today's grandparents — and even some great-grandparents! — are introducing it to their favorite small people.
Introduced in 1946, the children's publication is still going strong. Its current "I Was a Highlights Kid" social media campaign (highlights.com/memories) invites retro and current pics/memories and celebrates Goofus & Gallant, The Timbertoes, Hidden Pictures and all the other features I remember reading at the doctor's office many years ago.
This week I'm giving away Highlights-themed prize packs to two Pop Candy readers. The packages include the following:
- A travel cup featuring a Highlights cover from your birth year;
- A Highlights T-shirt;
- A coffee mug; and
- A one-year subscription to the Highlights publication of your choice. (This can be sent to anyone, whether it's your son/daughter, nephew, neighbor, etc.)
To enter, you must answer this question:
What's one of your favorite childhood reading memories?
Yesterday I was at the bookstore with my daughter and remembered that, when I was a kid, my parents didn't often buy me toys when we went out, but my dad would almost always say yes to books! I'm happy to continue that tradition.
Anyway, send a reading-related memory to popcandy@usatoday.com with the subject line "HIGHLIGHTS" by Aug. 20 at 4 p.m. ET. Winners will be selected at random, and some responses may be posted on the blog.
