With Black Friday just a week away, shoppers may be looking for extra deals. Several retailers are offering specials and discounted memberships in time for the holidays.
REI − Recreational Equipment, Inc. − an outdoor retailer, offers a lifetime co-op membership, which features special deals, free shipping, discounted rentals and exclusive events. REI sells clothing and equipment for activities such as camping, hiking, climbing, cycling and running.
REI is offering a $30 gift card to all new members who register for a membership and make a $50 purchase before Jan. 7, 2025.

How do you sign up for the REI Co-op membership?
Visit rei.com/membership and create an REI account or login with an existing one. You can also signup at an REI Co-op store in person.
Co-op members receive 10% back on purchases
REI Co-op members receive 10% back annually on eligible purchases. This store credit is distributed to member accounts each March for the previous year. For example, rewards for purchases made between Jan. 1, 2024-Dec. 31, 2024 will be awarded in March 2025.
Access to buy-and-trade used shop
Re/Supply is REI's buy-and-trade used shop. Co-op members can shop and trade in used outdoor clothing and equipment for store credit.
REI Co-op members can trade in-person or by mail. Members first check the eligibility of their items and then bring in or send in those that qualify. If trading via mail, REI e-gift cards are distributed through email.

- Free shipping on most products with no order minimum (exclusions to oversized items)
- One-year return window on most purchases
- Access to REI's Member Collection, an exclusive selection of merchandise, only available to members
- 20% off all bike and snow shop services
- 33% off rentals with no deposit, such as tents, kayaks and cycling gear
- Free bicycle tube and flat tire repairs on REI Co-op Cycles products and free machine waxes for skis or boards
- Access to member-only events and classes, like guided bike rides and hikes, backcountry navigation workshops and wilderness first aid courses
REI Co-op members are also eligible for the REI Co-op Mastercard, which offers 5% back on REI purchases and 1.5% back on all other purchases.
Does REI Co-op have Black Friday deals?
REI Co-op does not offer any special deals for Black Friday. Instead all locations close their doors for the company's #OptOutside initiative. Since 2015, REI Co-op stores closed on Thanksgiving and Black Friday in order to encourage employee and customers to "skip the shopping lines" and get outside, according to the REI website.
REI Co-op does offer Cyber Monday deals, which will be posted online soon.
