Here are the 10 supplements I take while on my Zepbound weight loss journey
Weight loss injections like Ozempic and Zepbound have taken Hollywood and social media by storm over the last year or so. Personally, I've been on Zepbound for nearly 10 weeks now and I've lost over 25 pounds thanks to a combination of the injection, diet, exercise and, of course, the advice of my doctor. One of the things I learned early on was the importance of supplementing my daily diet with vitamins and gummies in order to help prevent some of the not-so-fun side effects of GLP-1 medications.
Focusing on protein is a huge part of my nutrition and even calorie and macro counting, but it's also to help maintain muscle mass. Consuming a protein shake before the injection helps me alleviate any nausea. I also keep a rotation of daily vitamins and supplements, like vitamin D and collagen to combat hair loss that can occur when you lose weight, fiber gummies to keep things moving (literally) and more.
Seriously, my supplement shelf is starting to look like a pharmacy, but I won't gate keep. Below, take a look at the vitamins and supplements that I have added to my daily routine to help keep me feeling my best while taking a GLP-1.
Note: This is not medical advice. Every weight loss journey is different and we suggest consulting your doctor before starting any weight loss medications or taking vitamins and supplements.
My favorite supplements while taking a GLP-1
1. A solid multi-vitamin
💊 Pro-tip: If you're unsure of making health and wellness-related purchases on Amazon, be sure to check the seller and make sure it's coming from a brand's official storefront, like NatureMade.
2. Fiber gummies
🍫 I stock up on these FiberOne Oats & Chocolate bars which have 9g of fiber per bar, but you can also try the chocolate brownie for a sweet treat in the evenings—the brownies taste best after a couple seconds in the microwave!
3. Digestive enzymes
4. Vitamin D
5. Vitamin B12
6. Collagen
7. Omega-3
8. Magnesium
9. Protein shakes
🏋️ Pro-tip: Calculate the exact amount of calories you need, including a breakdown of macros like the grams of protein you should aim for everyday with a TDEE calculator.
10. Electrolytes
What are GLP-1's?
GLP-1's are a category of prescription medications labeled as glucagon-like peptide-1's. They're offered in several brand name forms, like Ozempic, where semaglutide is the main substance, or Zepbound, where tirzepatide is the main substance. But they do basically the same thing. They mimic a hormone that the body is supposed to produce naturally, which increases the amount of insulin released by the pancreas in order to control blood sugar. While they were initially created to control diabetes, they have been proven to be effective tools for weight loss.
How can I get on a GLP-1?
GLP-1's are a prescription medication, so you'll need to talk to your doctor. In some cases, a GLP-1 can be prescribed by your doctor and covered by your insurance (be sure to check with your provider on specific coverage details). But, there are options for you online. Consulting a medical professional online is available in some states through Hims and Hers for men and women.
