Future Boston Marathon hopefuls: here's five pieces of running gear you need for training

The 129th Boston Marathon is underway as more than 30,000 runners take part in the historic race, which spans 26.2 miles between Hopkinton, Mass. and ending at Boylston Street in Boston.

Kenya's Sharon Lokedi broke the women's record on Monday, besting the time by a full two minutes. On the men's side John Korir, also from Kenya, won the race. Korir's older brother, Wesley, won the Boston Marathon in 2012 and the Korirs became the first pair of siblings to both win the marathon.

As a former distance runner myself, the mere thought of running over three miles at once is hard to fathom, let along anything close to a full marathon.

However, for many long distance runners, the dream of completing the tough marathon starts with training and lots of it.

As the marathon continues to rage on and winners' are crowned throughout the day in various categories, perhaps you're feeling inspired.

Here's five must-have items to help kickstart your potential road to the Boston Marathon.
