Sign up for Kindle Unlimited and get ahead of your summer reading list for less.

There hasn't been a night since my son, who's four and a half, was born that I haven't read to him before bed. We've journeyed through the Harry Potter series, chuckled with Mr. Popper's Penguins, and explored some of the mysteries of The Boxcar Children. Of course, we always make time for his personal favorites: Little Blue Truck, Pete the Cat, and Patrick Picklebottom.

How, you ask? It's thanks to my Kindle Unlimited membership. It gives us access to a vast library of reading material, perfect for our nightly bedtime routine. And, I'll admit, it's also great for my own pastimes, like diving into the Bridgerton and Shadow and Bone series.

Kindle Unlimited is perfect for anyone who loves to read. And you don't need a special device (although Kindle readers are on sale for Prime Day and make great gift ideas) to take advantage of Kindle Unlimited, I often read on my smartphone through the Kindle app. Plus, right now you get a free 30-day trial when you sign up. Below we've put together a simple and useful guide to help you understand everything you need to know about a Kindle Unlimited membership and why you should have one, too!

Everything you should know about a Kindle Unlimited membership:

What is Kindle Unlimited?

A Kindle Unlimited membership is a monthly subscription that gives members access to more than four million digital books, as well as thousands of audiobooks, comics and magazines. After signing up, you can immediately start downloading titles from the Kindle Unlimited catalog, up to 20 at a time with no due date. Kindle Unlimited works with all Kindle devices, as well as on your phone, computer or tablet through the free Kindle app.

Do I need a membership to read on my Kindle?

No, you don't need a membership to read on the Kindle app. Books are available for purchase individually. However, I highly recommend a Kindle Unlimited membership if you regularly purchase e-books, audiobooks, comics, magazines or just love to read.

What benefits does a Kindle Unlimited membership include?

Here's a quick overview of the Kindle Unlimited benefits:

  • You can read and hold up to 20 titles before returning them
  • Unlimited access to over four million titles, including best-sellers, popular series, classics and more.
  • Unlimited listening with access to thousands of audiobooks
  • Magazine subscriptions are included in your membership, like Paste BN, Reader’s Digest, Men’s Health, People Magazine, Bloomberg Businessweek and more.

How much does Kindle Unlimited cost?

A Kindle Unlimited membership is $11.99 per month, but for a limited time, you can score a free 30-day trial. The membership will auto-renew at $11.99 per month. Plus, you can cancel it at any time.

Do I need to have a Kindle to have a Kindle Unlimited membership?

No! You can access your Kindle Unlimited membership on the web or on the Kindle app, which is free to download. The app is also available on all Amazon Fire tablets and, of course, you can access through any Kindle device.

Do I need an Amazon Prime membership to access Kindle?

Nope. An Amazon Prime membership and a Kindle Unlimited membership are two separate subscriptions. You do, however, need an Amazon account with a current, valid payment method. Plus, there are many other advantages and perks to having an Amazon Prime membership, like free same-day, one-day and two-day delivery options on millions of products and so much more!
