How SinglePoint is revolutionizing indoor air quality in schools
For a lot of people, the issue of indoor air quality (“IAQ”) didn’t come up that often before the COVID-19 pandemic. But over the past two years, we’ve all had to think about social distancing and ventilation more than we’ve ever wanted to, whether we’re in a school, office, gym or store — even in our own homes.
Beyond the pandemic, we’ve learned more about air pollution and how common colds and other ailments flow through the places we inhabit. Particularly in schools, air flow has become a major area of study, with the American Lung Association finding that 50% of educational settings have poor indoor air quality (“IAQ").
Luckily, there are solutions available. To help everyone breathe more easily, renewable energy company SinglePoint Inc and its subsidiary BOX Pure Air have been working with schools around the country to improve indoor air quality (“IAQ”). The plug and play solution Airbox™ products are high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filtration units that can be placed in classrooms, cafeterias, offices, libraries and more to clean up the air in educational settings with spectacular results.
“We knew when we set out to find the best indoor air quality solution that the unit needed to stand apart and that there isn’t really a one size fits all solution,” says Corey Lambrecht, president and director of SinglePoint Inc. “We also felt the units needed to be essentially maintenance free. BOX Pure Air met all of those requirements – multiple unit sizes and Certified HEPA filters that only have to be changed every 4-7 years, depending on the unit. The initial purchases by schools are validating our decision with Box Pure Air. Multiple schools have purchased and then come back for additional units to create a layered indoor air quality improvement system. With over $120 billion available for schools to use specifically for air quality and ventilation improvement we see our current pipeline of potential projects being converted into revenue.”
This technology is especially helpful in schools, where an airborne illness can spread rapidly. Whether it’s COVID-19, the flu or the common cold, indoor transmission of these contagions affects students, teachers and their families, leading to absences and other complications that are a hindrance to children’s education and parents’ ability to care for them. Illnesses aside, indoor air pollution — which the EPA estimates can be up to 100 times worse than outdoor air — can be harmful to anyone with breathing conditions like asthma or allergies, making filtration units all the more necessary.
BOX Pure Air’s line of filtration units are designed with portability and varying needs in mind. The Peak, measuring just 13”x13”x27” in size, is perfect for classrooms and homes as it filters 24,000 cubic feet of air per hour. It’s designed to run almost silently, so students or anyone else nearby will rarely register its presence as it takes care of germs, pollen, allergens, mold and odors. The two-motor Apex 2.0, meanwhile, boasts 1,500 square-feet of HEPA filtration, making it ideal for large, highly trafficked spaces like gyms and cafeterias.
This technology can be currently found in a number of schools, particularly in North and South Carolina. One NC school district has outfitted all of its buildings with BOX Pure Air units, and the company anticipates many more of the nation’s 130,000 K-12 schools to follow suit as the federal government offers more funding for these improvements.
Which brings us to funding. Last year, the Federal government passed a spending bill that specifically targets air purification in schools. To the tune of $121 billion.
“It is so important for kids, teachers and all school staff to be in school learning, socializing and creating the opportunity to return to school in a safe air environment,” says Wil Ralston, CEO and director of SinglePoint Inc. “Having a young child myself, I saw first-hand what it meant to not be experiencing in school learning. In setting down this path, we have learned so much more about indoor air quality and how imperative it is for our long-term health, cognitive function and overall well-being. In North America we spend 90% of our time indoors where air can be multiple times more polluted than outdoors. To offer a solution that improves the quality of life for everyone aligns with our core missions to create healthier living environments.”
