NCAA tournament preview: Arizona vs. Texas Southern
No. 2 Arizona (31-3) vs. No. 15 Texas Southern (22-12)
Time, TV: 2:10 p.m. ET, TNT
Where: Portland
Why Arizona will win: Few teams in college basketball are as well-rounded as the West Region's No. 2 seed. Arizona ranks second nationally in rebounding margin, sixth in field goal percentage, second in made free throws and third in adjusted defensive efficiency. The Wildcats' place among the country's most effective teams speaks to a talent level Texas Southern will struggle to contain.
Why Texas Southern will win: The Tigers shouldn't be cowed by the NCAA tournament's grand stage. Texas Southern reached the Round of 64 a season ago, for starters, and faced seven eventual tournament teams during nonconference play — defeating Michigan State on the road on Dec. 20. Even if the 15th seed in the West Region, the Tigers will have no shortage of confidence.
History lesson: Arizona has won 25 or more games in four of the last five seasons under coach Sean Miller, including 30 wins in back-to-back years for the first time in program history.
