Syracuse names John Wildhack athletic director

Syracuse University has named John Wildhack has the university's new athletic director, according to the school's website.

Wildhack, a native of upstate New York and a 1980 alumnus of the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, was selected following a national search, according to the website. He currently serves as executive vice president for programming and production for ESPN, a role he's held since January 2014.

He'll start his appointment in mid-August.

Wildhack replaces Mark Coyle, who resigned in May.
