Bruce Arians refutes report about his future with Arizona Cardinals

Bruce Arians is focused on football, not retirement, the coach indicated in a tweet directed at a report that he would step down from the post he's held for five seasons.
ABC15 in Phoenix reported Tuesday that Arians won't return as Cardinals coach in 2018. The 65-year-old Arians quickly went to Twitter to refute the report, saying, "Hearing reports I'm retiring. News to me. Nothing could be further from truth."

While the report of Arians' demise might be greatly exaggerated, the Arizona Cardinals' 2017 season hasn't been what the team had hoped. The Cardinals are 3-4 heading into their Week 8 bye, but are coming off a humbling 33-0 setback against the Los Angeles Rams in a game played in London. It was the worst regular-season loss the Cardinals have experienced during the Arians era.

During that defeat, quarterback Carson Palmer suffered a broken left arm, an injury that will sideline him for at least eight weeks. The Cardinals' playoff hopes now ride on the right arm of backup Drew Stanton. Palmer's setback was just the latest a long line of injuries for Arizona (including David Johnson, Markus Golden, Mike Iupati), but that situation is not unique to the Cardinals.
After back-to-back playoff seasons in 2014-15, the Cardinals are now in danger of missing the playoffs for a second consecutive season. The Cardinals can get back to .500 in Week 9 when they play the winless San Francisco 49ers at Levi's Stadium.
