Matthew Stafford can't keep getting away with this

Good morning, Winners! Somebody is going to pay Matthew Stafford a hundred million dollars to play quarterback in the year 2025 and, well, I feel very, very sorry for that team.

The Athletic's Diana Russini reports that Stafford is set to have conversations about his future with the Los Angeles Rams at some point today as the NFL Combine presses on. That conversation will determine what the quarterback's immediate future will be.

As far as where that future could be, Russini says the Giants and Raiders are two teams that have discussed a potential two-year deal with $90 million to $100 million guaranteed attached to it.

Guys. That's $100 million in guaranteed salary. To Matthew Stafford. Who is 37 years old.

The math is not matching here. I'm sorry. Something does not compute. Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200. What in the world is going on here?

I had two immediate thoughts after seeing this news. The first is this: I can't believe these teams are this down on the current quarterback class. It seems kind of ridiculous, doesn't it? It's not an uncommon sentiment, it seems. Mel Kiper's latest mock draft has Shedeur Sanders going outside of the top 6. There's also a chance neither of the top 2 QBs make it to New York or Oakland — our Christian D'Andrea has both Cam Ward and Sanders going No. 1 and No. 2 to Tennessee and Cleveland.

Even still, to be desperate enough to pay Matthew Stafford all that money just to be a holdover? Desperation is not a good look, you guys.

And there goes my second thought. The desperation. Come on, y'all. The Giants I can see being this desperate. The coach and GM are both on the hot seat. They just let Saquon Barkley walk into a Super Bowl. The're searching for wins in the worst way.

But the Raiders? No way. They just hired a new (extremely old) head coach in Pete Carroll. There should be a degree of patience there. Even if you want to find a bridge quarterback for the future if you end up drafting someone, it certainly doesn't have to be $100 million for Matthew Stafford, who needs to go be a family man at 37 years old.

Don't get me wrong. Stafford still has some juice. The no-look throws are still pretty. But we're well beyond the years where you just throw him in there and things work out. It's not 2022 anymore, guys. It's been three full seasons since the Rams won the Super Bowl.

Let's maybe act like it.

Notre Dame, r u OK?

Coming into Sunday's game against NC State, it'd been nearly four months since then No. 1 ranked Notre Dame had lost a game.

Now, Notre Dame has lost two straight. Again.

Florida State pulled off a stunning 86-81 upset over the Fighting Irish on Thursday night. When it rains, it pours for this team.

Well, honestly, that might be a bit dramatic. It's more like when it drizzles, it drizzles pretty hard. You should probably grab an umbrella. Two straight losses are nothing to scoff at, but then again, it's only two losses.

Niele Ivey isn't panicking, Meg Hall writes. And you probably shouldn't be either.

The last time Notre Dame lost two straight games was in November. They proceeded to win the next 19 games. While this certainly isn't what you want to see going into March, it's not the end of the world.

Aging like fine win

Stephen Curry's star has been fading a bit this season. He's not quite the same player he used to be. But he's still got enough juice to be better than your favorite player on any given night.

The man dropped 56 points against the Magic to drag the Warriors to a 116-111 win on Thursday. With yet another 50+ point game under his belt, the man now has nine total in his career after turning 30 years old. That's the most in NBA history.

The Warriors might be old. But I wouldn't want to see these dudes in the playoffs.

He's not really driving at the speed of light. That's just what it looks like. What a sick photo.
