Avocados from Mexico gets cameo from Jon Lovitz for Super Bowl commercial
Jon Lovitz is a man in the middle. He was a contestant on Celebrity Apprentice, where President Trump has an executive producer credit. And Sunday he’ll be on a Super Bowl ad for Avocados from Mexico, which could soon face an import tariff from the Trump administration.
"I’m just a comedian and an actor,” Lovitz tells Paste BN Sports, wisely waving off talk of politics. He’d rather talk guacamole, which he says he tries to eat every day.
Avocados from Mexico will advertise in the Super Bowl for a third consecutive year. This time the emphasis is they’re good for you.

"We are high in good fats, not bad fats,” says Alvaro Luque, president of Avocados From Mexico. “We are using the biggest stage out there to say we are a healthy brand.”
Lovitz gets a funny cameo in an ad that plays with the notion that we live in a culture where we can’t keep secrets. That goes for Super Bowl ads, too, many of which are released before the game.
"The oversharing is something you want,” says Jay Russell, chief creative officer of GSD&M Advertising. It brings early buzz, he says, plus those who’ve already seen it will tell others at Super Bowl parties to watch when they see one they like come on.
Russell can’t remember what teams played in the Super Bowls his ads have been in. To him, the real competition is what happens during commercial breaks.
"You watch your commercial play and you look at your phone and you know within seconds if you were great or a horrible failure,” he says. “We live in this Twitter world. I go straight to social media and you know instantly” where you stand. “I don’t drink a beer until I see a good result. Then I can finally eat the guacamole we’ve been advertising.”
