Amir Mansour tops Joey Dawejko in heavyweight clash on ESPN2

Amir Mansour out-pointed Joey Dawejko in the main event of ESPN2's Friday Night Fights at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia.

The 42-year-old prevailed via scores of 96-94, 98-92 and 97-93.

The affair between all-action heavyweights was a letdown, as both men battled at a more tactical pace. The majority of the action - and bloodshed - resulted from a clash of heads.

Mansour (22-1, 16 KOs) suffered a bad cut over his right eye in Round 2 from a headbutt. Dawejko, 24, was the victim of an equally brutal cut in the next frame, this one over the left eye. Dawejko was able to inflict some damage from punches when he turned southpaw, wobbling Mansour with a wild overhand left in the same round.

Mansour's cutman Danny Davis was able to get his fighter's gash under control, but Dawejko (14-4-2, 7 KOs) didn't have such luck.

Mansour has now racked up two consecutive wins since suffering a stoppage defeat to Steve Cunningham in his most notable bout to date. The Salem, N.J., native lost a large chunk of his career due to a lengthy stint in prison. He served 8 1/2 years for trafficking cocaine, returning to the ring in 2010. He then went back to prison for another 14 months in December 2011 after violating his probation.

This figures to be one of the final editions of Friday Night Fights with Al Haymon's Premier Boxing Champions set to debut on ESPN on July 11, and there were some local celebrities ringside in South Philly to catch the action.
