Wladimir Klitschko-Tyson Fury targeted for Sept. or Oct. at European soccer stadium

SANTA MONICA, Calif. - Mayweather-Pacquiao isn't the only major boxing event we'll see in 2015.

Wladimir Klitschko will defend his heavyweight championships this fall against brash Brit Tyson Fury, and the matchup is sure to pack the house in Europe.

Tom Loeffler, managing director of K2 Promotions, says his fighter will face Fury "in the fall, probably September or October" and that the matchup will most likely happen in either Germany or England.

"That's such a big fight, it's going to have to go in a big stadium, one of the big soccer stadiums," Loeffler told Paste BN Sports on Wednesday at the Wild Card West, where he was on hand to watch Gennady Golovkin's media workout. "Potentially Wembley. It just depends on what kind of deal we can work out and the availability with the soccer schedule in the fall. Not every stadium is going to be available."

Klitschko, 39, made the 19th successful defense of his IBF title last month vs. Bryant Jennings, a belt he won from Chris Byrd in 2006. Klitschko (64-3, 53 KOs) also holds the WBA and WBO titles, and Fury is the mandatory challenger for the former.

The 26-year-old has fought on American television only once, an impressive knockout of Steve Cunningham on NBC. The 6-foot-9 Fury (24-0, 18 KOs) stayed busy with a stoppage of Christian Hammer in February.

"(It's) a great fight," Loeffler declared. "Tyson Fury will be one of the few guys that Wladimir will have fought that is bigger than him and he's a great talker, he's a great self promoter so I think that will be a lot of fireworks in the promotion and a lot of fireworks in the ring."

HBO will televise the third and final fight of Klitschko's three-bout contract with the network.
