Adonis Stevenson will defend title Sept. 11, could fight in Haiti in December

Adonis Stevenson's next fight is set.

The lineal light heavyweight champion will defend his crown Sept. 11 against an opponent to be determined, promoter Yvon Michel told Paste BN Sports on Friday. ESPN first reported the news.

The fight will "most likely" take place in Toronto, Michel said, which would mark the first major boxing match in the city in quite some time. It will be the sixth defense of the title "Superman" won via first-round KO against Chad Dawson in 2013.

If all goes well, the 37-year-old could realize his dream of fighting in his native Haiti, with a December date being heavily discussed, per Michel.

BUTE RETURN: Former champion to fight in Montreal

"It will be the first time ever that a fighter born in Haiti will defend a world championship there," the promoter said. "He is the only fourth fighter born in Haiti that became a world champion, so it's been a long time (coming). We've been working on a plan for logistics … and it seems like we're getting close to a conclusion."

Stevenson (26-1, 21 KOs), one of the biggest punchers in the sport, hasn't tasted defeat since a stoppage loss to Darnell Boone in 2010, a loss he has since avenged. Along the way, the Kronk disciple has beat quality fighters such as Tony Bellew, Andrzej Fonfara and most recently, Sakio Bika.

All but two of his 27 pro bouts have taken place in Quebec, where he resides.
