Wladimir Klitschko suffers calf injury, postpones Tyson Fury bout
Tyson Fury is once again waiting for a marquee bout to take place.
After having David Haye twice cancel on him with injuries, Fury now must find a new date for his heavyweight title challenge with Wladimir Klitschko. The bout was scheduled for Oct. 24 in Germany on HBO, but the future Hall of Famer withdrew from the bout with a calf injury.
"Dear fans, I am sorry to inform you that I have had to postpone my fight with Tyson Fury due to a minor injury," Klitschko, 39, said in a video posted on his Instagram account Friday. "I am working hard to reschedule the fight, and as soon as I know, I will keep you posted about the new date."
Fury responded to the postponement via his own social media account:
Well it's official @Klitschko has pull out of the fight with an injury in his leg, it's a bit funny as I predicted this would happen!!!- Gypsy King (@Tyson_Fury) September 25, 2015The bout was highly anticipated and 55,000-plus fans were expected at the ESPRIT Arena in Dusseldorf. K2 Promotions, run by Klitschko, announced that a new date would be announced next week.Fury (24-0, 18 KOs) is a decided underdog, but for a rare instance, Klitschko (64-3. 53 KOs) would be fighting a larger man. Fury stands at 6-foot-9 to Wlad's 6-6. While the 27-year-old packs a big punch, he is a lumbering fighter who is no match for the unified champ's speed, athleticism and movement in the ring.//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js
