James DeGale will defend IBF title vs. Lucian Bute on Nov. 28 on Showtime
James DeGale's first title defense will come on Canadian soil.
A bout between DeGale and Canadian star Lucian Bute is done for Nov. 28 at the Videotron Centre in Quebec City. Showtime, the network that announced the fight was officially made, will televise the fight. Paste BN Sports reported in September that the fight was in the works.
DeGale (21-1, 14 KOs) became the first Olympic gold medalist from Britain to win a world title when he claimed the IBF super middleweight belt against Andre Dirrell in May. The talented 29-year-old dropped Dirrell twice in the victory and displayed his impressive athleticism. Now, DeGale could be looking at a lesser challenge.

Bute (32-2, 25 KOs) was once a regular on pound-for-pound lists, but was knocked out by Carl Froch in May 2012 and then struggled in a win over Denis Grachev. The 35-year-old also looked like a shell of his former self in a lopsided defeat to countryman Jean Pascal in January 2014. He was set to rematch Pascal later that year but suffered a hand injury, finally returning in August with a KO win over lightly regarded Andrea Di Luisa.
Bute, however, remains a draw in Quebec, where the Romania native resides, and another title opportunity should resonate with his fans. The odds will be long, though.
Artur Beterbiev will fight in the co-feature against an opponent to be determined. Sullivan Barrera is mandated to fight the Russian to crown a new IBF No. 1 contender, but he has immigration issues and might not be allowed to enter Canada by the date of the fight.
