Prichard Colon in critical condition after undergoing surgery for brain bleed

Prichard Colon, a 154-pound prospect, was in critical condition with a brain injury Sunday following a defeat against Terrell Williams on Saturday, according to a statement by the promoter.

The PBC on NBC fight ended after Colon was disqualified in the ninth round. The 23-year-old was dropped twice in the round and also was deducted two points for a low blow. Afterward, Colon's team made a mistake and began to remove the fighter's gloves, leading to the disqualification.

Colon (16-1, 13 KOs) appeared fine, but according to promoter Lou DiBella, became symptomatic in the dressing room and subsequently was rushed to Inova Fairfax Hosptial in Northern Virginia.

"He suffered a brain bleed as a result of an injury during the bout and underwent immediate surgery to relieve pressure on his brain," DiBella said in a statement. "His condition remains critical. Prichard's family has requested that their privacy be respected at this time. Updates will be provided when appropriate. We ask that everyone join us in praying for Prichard and his family."

Referee Joseph Cooper informed Colon's team there was one more round, and they began to lace the gloves up again, but it was too late. Cooper disqualified Colon.
