Curtis Stevens-Patrick Teixeira middleweight bout agreed to for Canelo-Khan card
Canelo-Khan still needs a co-feature, but the undercard is coming together.
A 10-round middleweight bout between Curtis Stevens and Patrick Teixeira has been verbally agreed to for the televised portion of the May 7 HBO PPV, according to persons involved in the talks. The persons spoke on the condition of anonymity because the fight has not been officially announced.
Stevens (27-5, 20 KOs) last competed in a boxing ring in October 2014, when he was outpointed by Hassan N'Dam in a title eliminator. With few options on the table, the Brooklynite turned to the fledgling BKB and fought Gabriel Rosado to a draw in April.
Now, the 31-year-old is set for a notable bout again on what could be the biggest event of the year. Teixeira, a 25-year-old from Brazil, will be stepping way up in competition.
The southpaw signed with Golden Boy in January 2015 and recorded victories over Don Mouton and Patrick Allotey. The bout vs. Mouton headlined an L.A. Fight Club card, but this would be far greater exposure for Teixeira (26-0, 22 KOs).
Stevens' inactivity is a problem, but he's a massive puncher and usually engages in fun fights. This bout should tell us a lot about who Teixeira really is.
