Jason Quigley left his native Ireland with dreams of becoming middleweight champion.

He settled in Southern California for the top-notch sparring, world-class gyms, and of course, the weather, as he prepares for his 11th pro fight, believes he's well on his way to achieving his goal.

The 24-year-old steps up in competition for the first time Saturday with a fight against James De La Rosa on the Canelo-Khan undercard. De La Rose blew weight Friday, coming in at 162 pounds, but the fight is on, and it represents Quigley's toughest test yet.

De La Rosa owns a victory over Alfredo Angulo and was slated to fight David Lemieux in March when the Canadian missed weight himself.

Quigley (10-0, 9 KOs) is slowly working his way up and should receive some much-needed experience vs. the Mexico native.

"Everything feels right, this is where I belong," Quigley told Paste BN Sports. "This just feels perfect. There are the stages I wanted to get to - these are the real climbing stages for an up-and-coming fighter like me. It's an amazing opportunity to show the world what I have, why I'm here, and what I'm here to do. And come May 7, this is my time to shine."

The Irishman was an 11-time amateur national champion in his homeland, a three-time European gold medalist and a world silver medalist at 163 pounds.

Quigley competed in the World Series of Boxing, a semi-professional organization that allows fighters to maintain Olympic eligibility. There he met trainer Manny Robles and has since worked with him at The Rock in Carson.

"My No. 1 is putting on a clinical performance. Because I know if I get in there and put on the kind of performance I can, any middleweight in the world is going to have a tough night with me.

"I have a lot of learning and I have a lot of existence to gain. This is the perfect opportunity and the perfect test to prove I belong with the best fighters in the world."

He's promoted by Golden Boy, who is invested in the middleweight division with fighters like Canelo and David Lemieux. If Quigley keeps winning, he'll be fighting for a world title in no time.
