Tyson Fury-Wladimir Klitschko heavyweight title fight postponed following Brit's injury
Tyson Fury logged onto Instagram on Friday morning and delivered some disappointing news: he's been forced to withdraw from his July 9 heavyweight title fight vs. Wladimir Klitschko.
Fury, who upset Klitschko in November to wrest the lineal championship after a 10-year plus reign, said he injured his ankle.
"About 10 days ago I was running up in the lake district and I went over on my ankle, sprained my ankle," Fury, 27, said. "I've been to the hospital, had MRIs, X-rays, scans and all that stuff. They said it's not broken but it's badly sprained, keep off it for 6-7 weeks.
"I tried to still train a bit, had a second opinion, got the same advice. So the fight is postponed. … As soon as my ankle gets better, we will reschedule."
Fury's uncle, trainer and manager, Peter Fury, said it's likely a new date will be announced later on in the day. HBO was set to televise the rematch live from Manchester, England, Fury's home country. The fight bout was in Germany, where Klitschko lives.
Peter Fury also posted photographic evidence of his nephew's left ankle:

It's unclear if the 40-year-old challenger will go ahead with an interim fight. This is the second time a meeting between the duo was postponed. Klitschko suffered a calf injury while training for the first bout, originally scheduled for Oct. 24, before it was pushed back to Nov. 28.The future Hall of Famer since April 2014, when he was shocked by Lamon Brewster. That was the Ukrainians third upset stoppage loss, but under the tutelage of Emanuel Steward, Klitschko (64-4, 53 KOs) learned to protect his fragile chin with great defensive technique."OF course, I am totally disappointed about the cancellation," Klitschko said. "As well as for my fans, I'm very sorry, they were all very excited for this rematch. But one thing is also clear: This just means I'll get my belt a few weeks later."The meeting of top-2 heavyweights is likely to be moved to the fall to allow for recovery time and a full 8-week training camp.(Photo of Klitschko, left, and Fury by Martin Meissner/AP Photo)
