Diego De La Hoya dominates Luis Del Valle via unanimous decision to remain undefeated
ARLINGTON, Texas - Diego De La Hoya, a cousin of his promoter Oscar De La Hoya, was impressive in kicking things off on the Canelo-Smith HBO PPV telecast.
The junor featherweight prospect was sharp in his 10-round unanimous decision over Luis Del Valle - scores of 100-90, 99-91 and 99-91 - on Saturday to remain undefeated.
"We knew this fight was going to be difficult, we knew we were going up against an opponent who had a ton of experience," said De La Hoya (16-0, 9 KOs). "There were moments where the fight was complicated, but I was able to hurt him consistently with shots to the head.
"My most effective shot was the uppercut, and once I found that out, I consistently used it. I'm glad for the victory to bring this fight for all the Mexican fans tonight in front of such a venue, has been a dream come true for me."
The Mexican faithful at AT&T Stadium roared for the 22-year-old, who easily landed clean punches all fight long. De La Hoya moved well and was able to avoid most of Del Valle's shots while countering.
It's clear De La Hoya is a real prospect to watch. With his famous last name and Mexican backing, Golden Boy Promotions could have a future star on their hands.
Now it's time for De La Hoya to step up in class.
