David Lemieux wins unanimous 10-round decision over Cristian Rios

Former middleweight champion David Lemieux scored a near shutout victory against Argentina's Cristian Fabian Rios Saturday night in a 10-round middleweight bout at the Bell Centre in Montreal.

Lemieux (36-3, 32 KOs), in his second fight since his TKO loss to Gennady Golovkin last October, delivered a solid victory over light-hitting Rios (21-8-3, 6 KOs) before his hometown crowd.

The 27-year-old Lemieux won by scores of 100-90 twice and 99-91.

"With this win, David Lemieux has once again demonstrated himself to be a dynamic and resilient fighter," said Oscar De La Hoya, Chairman and CEO of Golden Boy Promotions. "This additional victory will open new doors for Lemieux, and we can't wait to see what the next chapter in his boxing career will bring."

Possibilities abound for Lemieux's next fight. There has been talk about pitting him against WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders, and also the possibility of Lemieux fighting Canelo Alvarez when Alvarez moves up to 160. Lemieux and Alvarez are both promoted by Golden Boy.

In the opening bout, super middleweight prospect D'mitrius Ballard (15-0, 11 KOs), from Temple Hills, Md., dominated Gergo Harvath (9-2-1, 5 KOs), knocking him down three times in the second round before referee Martin Forest waved off the fight at 1:20 of the round.
