Cecilia Braekhus remains unbeaten with unanimous decision over Erica Farias

Women's pound-for-pound queen Cecilia Braekhus, fighting in her hometown for the first time in her career, gave her fans something to cheer about on Friday, defeating Erica Farias by unanimous decision before a massive crowd at the Bergenhus Fortress.

Braekhus (31-0-0, 8 KOs), boxing's only undisputed champion, defended all five major welterweight world titles (WBC/WBA/WBO/IBF/IBO) in defeating current WBC junior welterweight champion Erica “La Pantera” Farias (24-2-0, 10 KO’s),  from Argentina. Scores were 99-91, 99-91 and 98-92.
Braekhus, 35, used her height advantage to control the action with her range-finding jab. Farias got more aggressive as the fight entered the middle rounds but Braekhus used her counter-punching ability to win rounds.

“This is very emotional for me to fight here; Bergen is my home,”  Braekhus said. “This is the highlight of my career. We’ve worked very hard to make this happen, but all the people of Bergen make it worth it. This is unreal. I don’t know how you can top this."

Braekhus called Farias a very tough opponent, but mentioned the possibility of fight in the U.S. next, saying, "maybe I should take the people of Bergen to Las Vegas to see me fight in the United States.”

Farias, meanwhile, said she was left with uncertainty and doubt. "I really want a rematch. A fight where I can do my absolute best. I feel I deserve that,”  she said. “Cecilia is one of my idols. I would love to ask what she thought of the match.”

This was just the third professional boxing event in Norway following a 32-year ban that ended in 2013. Braekhus has been the main attraction in all three fight cards
