Floyd Mayweather Sr. pleads not guilty to assault charge

Floyd Mayweather Sr., the father of retired boxer Floyd Mayeather Jr., pleaded not guilty Thursday to a misdemeanor assault and battery charge from an alleged September altercation after the Gennady Golovkin vs. Canelo Alvarez boxing match, according to Clark County (Nev.) online court records.
The 65-year-old Mayweather was accused of physically assaulting a woman, and a warrant was issued for his arrest Jan. 16 after a woman filed a complaint. Mayweather turned himself in Wednesday and posted $1,000 bond.
Mayweather, who trains his son and is a former boxer, is due back in court for a bench trial March 27.
Mayweather Jr., regarded as one of the best pound-for-pound boxers of all time, retired in August with a 50-0 record following a heavily hyped bout with MMA star Conor McGregor. He handily beat McGregor in 10 rounds.
