Boxer Gervonta Davis charged with simple battery after disturbing video of him with woman goes viral
A disturbing video that circulated on social media over the weekend that showed boxer Gervonta Davis grab a seated woman by the neck and pull her out of the arena where a charity basketball game was being played has led to the WBA lightweight champion's arrest.
On Tuesday, the Coral Gables (Florida) Police Department announced Davis had been charged with simple battery/domestic violence.
"As a result of an ongoing investigation after being notified through social media and the victim, on Feb. 1, 2020, the above pictured subject was observed battering his former girlfriend whom (they) have a child together."
Police said Davis, 25, turned himself in Tuesday.
This is not the first time Davis has run into trouble with the law. In March, he was accused of assaulting a man following a confrontation at a Virginia mall. A misdemeanor second-degree assault charge against the Baltimore, Maryland, native was dropped in November 2017.
Davis owns a career record of 23-0.
