Iowa All-America wrestler Sam Stoll hospitalized after gunshot wound
An accidental firearm discharge sent Iowa All-America wrestler Sam Stoll to the hospital early Tuesday morning, according to police.
Police responded to a report of a 22-year-old gunshot victim at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics at 4:37 a.m. Tuesday. According to police, a bullet struck the Stoll's knee and the injury is not life-threatening.
Stoll earned All-America honors this past season after finishing fifth at the NCAA championships. The junior had 25-6 record and led the team with 10 falls.
The investigation is still ongoing, but police believe the firearm discharge was an accident, according to a news release from the Iowa City Police Department. .
A preliminary investigation revealed that several people were in a residence on Valley Avenue in Iowa City when a person discharged a firearm, accidentally striking Stoll in the knee, according to the news release.
